Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
Join us for a lunchtime talk, titled "No-No Boy: The Crossroads of Art, Activism and Scholarship," with singer-songwriter Julian Saporiti. This event is FREE and open to the public. Musician and scholar Julian Saporiti will discuss how he turns his dissertation research at Brown University, focusing on WW2 Japanese Incarceration and other Asian-American experiences, into songs aiming to reach people beyond the typical scholarly audience. How do you translate years of archival and ethnographic research into something many people can interact with? Through performing concerts, embracing social media, and recording albums, Saporiti will discuss his No-No Boy project and unpack how aims not only to write articles and academic books, but also create art which can convey important histories and in turn inspire people to engage with their current political situation.
