Tours & Toddies: Conserving the Collection

Join Buffalo Bill Center of the West Chief Conservator Beverly Perkins on Friday, March 15. She takes us on another deep dive into the care and preservation that goes into our world-renowned collections.

Our Tours & Toddies guests had so much fun learning and engaging with the collection during last year’s Conservation Tours & Toddies that they requested a Part 2. So here it is!

What happens to our priceless artifacts if a natural disaster strikes? Do you have a plan for protecting your precious items? As a certified AIC-CERT (American Institute for Conservation Collections Emergency Response Team) emergency responder for cultural institutions, Perkins coordinated the AIC volunteer response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and assisted in artifact recovery after the 2010 Haiti earthquake, along with several other artifact care and recovery missions during her 38 years as a conservator.

Here at the Center of the West, we believe in preserving the past for future generations, and that’s why this event includes a special focus on safeguarding artifacts in the face of natural disasters. During this Tours & Toddies event, Bev shares the Center of the West’s plan for preserving artifacts if/when calamity hits, and even provides tips for preparing for your own recovery relief efforts.

And if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to—literally—piece together history, this event is for you! Attendees also receive hands-on learning in ceramic conservation.

At the end of the tour, Bev brings guests back to the Exclusive Tours Depot for additional Q&A, custom charcuterie, and adult beverages.
